Our 7th annual spring break trek to Wimberley is in the books! We spent 9 days in this charming little country town (located 40 minutes outside of Austin), luxuriating in the slow, quiet days in our rented log cabin.
Eloise seemed to take quite nicely to the country life, and happily continued to sleep through the night in her new little bedroom & pack n play (woot!).
Our big girl, however, took a little longer to adjust to her new sleeping quarters. On our first night she went down in the guest room next to Eloise's portable crib. Halfway through the night she was back in our room, saying she was scared of the dark and wanted to sleep with us. BC got her set up on the futon bed in our room- but at some point in the night Iyla made herself a little floor nest right next to where I slept. From that point on that little floor nest was HER spot. We'd get her ready for bed and let her read in our big bed for awhile before having her retire to her little nest. She took to falling asleep around 8:45-9pm each night- definitely enjoying the vacation lifestyle!
I took Iyla out to breakfast almost every morning, where she was happy to discover that the Winberley Cafe made various arrays of Mickey Pancakes. It started with a Mickey shaped pancake on our first morning, and by the end of our visit had transformed into an elaborate Minnie design with whipped cream. Iyla took to eating off the whipped cream and then having maaaaybe one bite of pancake as her meal. Breakfast of champions!
Signature goofy face at breakfast
The girls both loved being outside, surrounded by trees and the waterfall in the middle of our creek. Much time was spent frolicking about our temporary yard & porch.
At this angle Eloise looks almost as big as Iyla!
Our cabin's hammock was sadly broken, so in between visitors at the cabin next door we took full advantage and tried out their groovy pink and green striped one:
Our cabin didn't have a bathtub, so both girls were treated to creative bathing adventures. Eloise via the sink (which she loved!), and Iyla via her first shower. Iyla enjoyed watching herself in the bathroom mirror as she got the hang of it. She also continually requested "privacy" while she showered.
On a couple of evenings we stayed in and dined al fresco.....
Making cozy fires and s'mores:
And in general wore out our big girl quite well, who took to having daily afternoon naps in the car (and this from a kid who never naps at home!):
I took Iyla to see Peter Pan at the EmilyAnn Theatre & Gardens where she was delighted to meet Tinkerbell:
Eloise enjoyed playing and eating in her portable high chair:
We discovered random cowboy boot sculptures around town:
And took many day trips to neighboring towns, including the lovely town of Gruene:
We dined at the Gristmill:
And had ice cream at the general store:
Eloise gave Papa big kisses at the gorgeous Trattoria Lisina (where we dined on two separate occasions- SO good, and can't go wrong with a delicious spot that also has a playground for kids!):
We headed into New Braunfels to check out the Mckenna Children's museum with friends Tatum and Harper:
And enjoyed the cabin's hot tub (Iyla's first time! Photos from warming up post play):
Overall, we just loved having this sweet time all together.
Until 2018, Wimberley!
