It's amazing what a day of self care can do.
I was pretty much exhausted our entire time in Colorado- having a little one who was sick and up multiple times per night definitely took its toll. A friend yesterday said to me that once she had kids, she started calling their travel a "trip" and reserved the term "vacation" for those times away without children. I totally get it.
Yesterday BC took morning duty so I could actually sleep in (which ended up being 7:30- a luxury these days!) I had a leisurely breakfast at my favorite coffee shop, then returned home to a napping Iyla. It appears she too was exhausted from our trip- I had to wake her up 2 1/2 hours into her nap so we could make a birthday party we had scheduled! We arrived an hour late but Iyla had a blast- watching the other kiddos and nibbling on her first peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
I then returned home to our lovely nanny Veronica, whom Iyla was delighted to see! I got a massage then took the afternoon to do laundry, put away clothes, & organize.
The day culminated with a much needed date with BC. We were so excited to have dinner & cocktails together alone for the first time in over a week!
Last night Iyla woke at 11:30 fussing... I waited awhile to see if she'd go back to sleep, then went to nurse- wondering if we were in for a long night.
That sweet little bird then slept all the way until 7am! I actually woke and rose before her. Such a luxury. When BC got her up and brought her to me, she gave the biggest smile and then did the sign for "milk"- the first time she has initiated the sign to ask for what she wants! She always does it when I ask her if she wants milk, but never yet to request it herself.
An added bonus? Fall weather has officially arrived to Austin! After a long hot summer of 100+ degree temperatures, that in and of itself is hugely refreshing. This morning I have on a sweater & boots. Yes, it is still supposed to be 84 today- but the sharp edge of the humid heat is GONE and my favorite season is upon us.
So grateful to finally be feeling energetic again!

It's so funny, my boys just started doing the sign for milk like in the past few days. Iyla is only 13 days younger than them, so that makes sense! Development in babies just never ceases to amaze me! Glad to hear you got some much needed rest and pampering. And yeah, vacation... what's that? :)
